Why the ORCA is our guiding star?
Orcas have breathtaking abilities:
- Their brains are among the largest in the world. It is four times the size of a human brain and weighs around seven kilograms. Killer whales can perceive emotions in a dimension that is not even possible for humans.
Researchers found that the personality traits of killer whales are similar to those of humans and chimpanzees in terms of the extraversion factor (e.g. playful, sociable and outgoing) - They are absolute team players, they work successfully in teams
- Orcas usually live together in groups called schools or pods. In general, the fish-eating orcas are organized in larger groups than the mammal-eating ones. A pod has a hierarchical structure, with the oldest female at the top.
The social behavior of orcas is extraordinary, for example a deaf female orca in Norway is no longer able to hunt, so other orcas take over the hunt for her. - Orcas understand complex languages it takes a young orca 2 years to learn the language
- Orcas are fast and purposeful, and expend a lot of energy. when a male orca accelerates his nine tons of weight to 50 km/h while hunting, he briefly expends as much energy as the city of new york consumes in one second.
- An orca covered a distance of 9400 km in 42 days.
All these abilities make an orca an extraordinary animal.
